Wikijob feature on Drupal.org
Submitted by Dream on Tue, 11/05/2010

It's a great day when you see a Drupal site you have designed and built being featured around the web, it's even nicer when the site you find it on is the main Drupal.org website.
The write up is a case study that was provided by the owners of Wikijob charting their history, choice of choosing Drupal and how they did it. You will see a great endorsement for the new theme of the site (which was completed under my Adaptive Themes hat), thanks Wikijobbers!
One of the real tests of a websites worth is if it accomplishes it's goals. Wikijob has proven that design led business IS more successful, their advertising revenue is up, users and user participation is up, and as a company they are growing at a faster rate . So, if you are in any doubt about the effectiveness of design on your business, feel reassured that you are investing in your company.
I really do love everything about the Drupal CMS/framework, and Wikijob is a testament to the creative uses that it can be used for. The only limit for Drupal is imagination, and there's plenty of that going around here. So, if you're looking at using Drupal for your next project then get in touch and we can let the ideas flow and create an excellent web presence for you.

Very nicely done.
This must have been an absolute beast to plan. What did you use to plan it all out I wonder?
Very impressive.

The Wikijob site was already live when they decided to redesign it. It started life solely as a forum for graduates and gradually started to need the extra little bit here and there.
It is a massive site, with everything from the forum to a full blown wiki, with lots in between.
As for advice on planning a big site like Wikijob, the best way is to break it down into smaller tasks, and knock down the list gradually. It's really important to make sure you have a good map of what's needed so you can see where any overlap may occur.
Wikijob for example heavily uses Drupals Taxonomy, and from one simple list of definitions you have can tap into categorisation for pages, menu's, forum topics... the list goes on.
I did find Deskaway Project Management invaluable to track everything. I had previously used Basecamp but this is so much easier with more features.
